The NRA is purposed-designed to dissolve the United States from within. It leverages our deep addiction to mass murder to destabilize our institutions. From the University of Texas tower shootings of 1966 to the murder of school children in Uvalde, Texas on May 24, the NRA has succeeded at every point. Indeed, in the fourteen days since Uvalde, there have been 33 more mass shootings. You can’t do much better than that!
America’s addiction to mass murder is very, very deep. So deep in fact that mass murder has become part of the American way of life. Our politicians live for the moment when they can, ever so sincerely, say how their hearts bleed for the dead and their families. The media love the attention. And the NRA celebrates! The rest of us do nothing but mumble.
Exactly what The Texas Taliban want.
And Putin and Xi too. This is perfect for them. A no-cost twofer: they get huge propaganda victories and a shattered U.S. in no position to stop them doing what they want. Putin foolishly squandered his big win in the Ukraine. But Xi is carefully recalculating his next steps to re-establish The Center of Everything as the center, moving the US to the margins. For Xi, the NRA is his most important ally. It will do all it can to get him where he wants to go and minimize his risks in getting there.
The shattered, inchoate GOP is unified on only one thing: the American right to shoot people. Mass murder is its saving dogma. The GOP will support our NRA to the death, literally.
Yet, as Publius showed in Curing Our National Addiction over six years ago, the solution to our mass murder addiction is simple -- just two words: liability insurance -- and will make us staggering amounts of money.
Americans can have all the guns they want. Of any type they want. So long as every gun carries insurance just like a car. Minimum liability per gun: $5 million. The more guns you have, the more you pay. The more powerful the gun, the higher your liability and the higher your premium. Open carry? Just pay.
Anyone found with an uninsured gun gets a mandatory twenty years, for each offense.
Insurance companies will police gun ownership. You won’t be able to buy or sell a weapon anywhere or anyway without getting insurance. Insurance companies will determine the conditions of ownership as they do with cars—like who can drive and who cannot—and the standards of owner training and gun management.
Make a mistake and the liability bar will eat you alive.
Whoever gets into the gun insurance business first and fastest will be one of the biggest companies in the world. Overnight. A Warren Buffett Moment for millions of Americans.
And all the money that will be made training gun owners to qualify for insurance? Bring it on!!
The best part? Taxpayers don’t spend a dime!
But the GOP’s addiction is so deep that it has rejected all this money in favor of more mass murder.
The NRA will kill us all.
It is our national suicide.
